I've lived in the neighborhood for two years and I fully admit that I was kind of scared to go in this place because it looks shady af from the outside. I've gotten food poisoning before From bad seafood, so it's something I get anxious about. However, I really wish I'd gone in there sooner, because the food was surprisingly good and inexpensive. I have included a picture so you can see the massive amount of food that I got for less than $13. What made me finally decide to trust it was that when I walked in, despite a place that is known for seafood and had seafood ready for the fryer out in a refrigeration case, there was absolutely no fishy smell.. Fryer smell, yes, but the oil smelled Fresh and not old. The employees were responsive and friendly. The fries were fairly unremarkable; not bad, but nothing to rent home about either. The fish, chicken, and shrimp all had a very nice cornmeal breading that made them crispy. everything tasted very fresh. The fish and chicken were moist, but surprisingly my favorite were the shrimp, which were very sweet and fresh! Most importantly, unlike most of the other places I've found around, it was not oversalted. The breading was already lightly seasoned, but they give you the open container before they pack it up so you can add your own salt, ketchup, hot sauce, whatever else you want. The place isn't gonna win any James Beard awards or anything, it certainly isn't fine dining. But when you want a big pile of fried stuff, this Hyon's is a great option. I'm glad to have it in the neighborhood.

Sometimes you want to treat yourself to greasy food. If I could only figure out their fry batter. Never disappoints. The staff have been there for years and give you good service. I like that they take cards now. Treat yourself
Listen, this chicken is the best fried chicken in South Philly! It's fried right! Always get it with Saltpepperketchup and hot sauce. The chicken gizzards is good too. I'm telling you! I am telling youuuuuuuuu!
